Week 2: Principles of Animation

  • 12 Principles of Animation (squash & stretch, timing, arcs, weight)
  • Keyframes, breakdowns, and pose-to-pose workflow
  • Simple bouncing ball exercise

Week 3: 3D Modeling Basics

  • 3D geometry & topology fundamentals
  • Modeling simple objects (props & environment pieces)
  • Edge loops, extrusion, subdivision

Week 4: Character Modeling

  • Anatomy basics for characters
  • Low-poly vs high-poly workflows
  • Sculpting fundamentals (optional depending on software choice)

Week 5: UV Mapping & Texturing

  • UV unwrapping techniques
  • Texture painting basics (substance painter / Blender texture paint)
  • Introduction to PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials

Week 6: Shading & Materials

  • Shader basics (diffuse, specular, roughness, normals)
  • Creating materials for different surfaces (metal, skin, cloth)
  • Texture optimization for real-time engines

Week 7: Rigging Fundamentals

  • Skeleton creation and joint placement
  • Basic character rigging & controls
  • Weight painting and skin binding

Week 8: Animation Block-In

  • Blocking key poses for character performance
  • Timing & spacing refinement
  • Walk cycle & simple actions

Week 9: Advanced Animation Techniques

  • Facial animation basics

Week 10: Lighting & Rendering

  • Render engines (Cycles, Eevee, Arnold, Redshift)

Week 11: Real-Time Integration (Trend Skill)

  • Introduction to real-time engines (Unreal Engine / Unity)
  • Import workflows (FBX/GLTF) from DCC to game engine
  • Real-time lighting & cinematic sequences

Week 12: Final Project & Portfolio Showcase

  • Students develop a polished animated scene or character reel

  • Exporting finished work; building a portfolio/ demo reel
